The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure promotes a positive image of Northern Ireland internationally through the arts. Its goals are to:

  • Overcome insularity
  • Provide opportunities to broaden outlooks
  • Promote wider exposure for artists and performers
  • Build confidence by showcasing the best of Northern Ireland’s arts sector
  • Develop new partnerships and strategic relationships

There are three strands to the Department’s work on international issues:

  • Showcasing
  • Raising the cultural profile
  • Nurturing home grown projects

The Department has created a Cultural Affairs Desk in the Northern Ireland Bureau DC  Opens new window to promote NI arts and cultural issues in the United States.

DCAL works collaboratively with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the British Council and the Northern Ireland Bureau to deliver international projects at home and abroad.
