The Re-imaging Communities Initiative was launched on 10 July 2006. Funding of £3.3m is available under this three year arts programme which is being taken forward under the auspices of the Government's Shared Future Agenda.  It is part of the cross-government ‘Renewing Communities’ Action Plan.  The Arts Council led initiative is aimed at supporting local communities as they replace divisive symbols and murals of the past with images that are a positive celebration of the future. Public art of this kind has a key role to play in raising aspirations and in promoting positive community identity and cohesion.
