Re-imaging CommunitiesPublic art of this kind has a key role to play in raising aspirations and in promoting positive community identity and cohesion. What is it? The Re-imaging Communities Initiative was launched on 10 July 2006. Funding of £3.8m is available under this three year arts programme which is being taken forward under the auspices of the Government's Shared Future Agenda. It is part of the cross-government ‘Renewing Communities’ Action Plan. The initiative tackles visible signs of sectarianism and racism by supporting local communities as they replace divisive symbols and murals of the past with images that are a positive celebration of the future.
