London 2012 Inspire programme

Time is running out – apply before 1 December 2011!

The London 2012 Inspire programme in Northern Ireland

What is the Inspire programme?

For the first time in Olympic and Paralympic history, non-commercial projects and events can be officially recognised as being part of the Games, through the Inspire programme and its logo – the Inspire mark. This UK-wide programme aims to use the Games as a catalyst to inspire change – at individual, community, regional and national level – ultimately leaving a positive legacy. It isn’t just about sport – it’s also open to projects which focus on culture, education, volunteering, business and sustainability.

Northern Ireland currently has a range of Inspire projects across different areas, led by diverse organisations.

What are the benefits of being part of the programme?

Right of association with the 2012 Games:
Inspire projects can carry the Inspire mark, part of the 2012 Games’ brand family, on a wide range of marketing materials. This sets projects apart and inspires people to get involved, and is a badge of excellence as only the most exceptional projects are recognised through the programme.

Profile-raising marketing and communications support: Regional and national media activity regularly focuses attention on Inspire projects. Each project has access to exclusive communications materials and support, and there will be showcasing opportunities in the run up to the 2012 Games, for example during the Torch Relay.

What are the eligibility criteria?

In order to be eligible to join the programme, a project or event must be:

  • Genuinely inspired or energised by the 2012 Games
  • Innovative and exceptional
  • Participatory, inclusive and accessible
  • Sustainable
  • Well planned and managed
  • Delivered by a non-commercial organisation or organisations
  • Fully funded or awaiting confirmation of funding, and free from commercial support or association

It must also address specific priorities under at least one of the key Inspire themes: Sport, Culture, Education, Volunteering, Sustainability and Business.

The programme is open to projects and events which start between now and the end of the 2012 Games, but if your project has already started you may still be able to apply. We are particularly interested in projects and events which will continue post-Games.
