Library Authority Public ConsultationNORTHERN IRELAND LIBRARY AUTHORITY PROGRESS Legislation Public consultation on the draft Libraries legislation to create a Northern Ireland Library Authority took place between January and April 2007. Once the Northern Ireland Assembly resumed, and taking account of comments received during the public consultation, the legislation was converted to a Bill of the Northern Ireland Assembly. The policy to create a Library Authority was endorsed by the Executive which agreed that the legislation could be introduced to the Assembly. The Libraries Bill has now completed its passage through the Assembly. The legislation received Royal Assent in June 2008. Chief Executive (Designate) Irene Knox took up post as Chief Executive (Designate) on 13 August 2007. She has been meeting with library staff in all Education and Library Boards and is developing a new organisational design for the Library Authority. Ms Knox Chairs the Implementation Project Board. Northern Ireland Library Authority Implementation Team The Northern Ireland Library Authority Implementation Team (NILAIT) consists of the CE(D) a Human Resources Project Manager, Mary Walker and administrative support.
