Library Authority Public Consultation

NORTHERN IRELAND LIBRARY AUTHORITY PROGRESS

Legislation

Public consultation on the draft Libraries legislation to create a Northern Ireland Library Authority took place between January and April 2007.  Once the Northern Ireland Assembly resumed, and taking account of comments received during the public consultation, the legislation was converted to a Bill of the Northern Ireland Assembly.  The policy to create a Library Authority was endorsed by the Executive which agreed that the legislation could be introduced to the Assembly.  The Libraries Bill has now completed its passage through the Assembly.

The legislation received Royal Assent in June 2008.
