ELITE FACILITIES CAPITAL PROGRAMMEThe Elite Facilities Capital Programme (EFCP)is being managed by Sport Northern Ireland (SNI) on behalf of DCAL. There are two different competitions, the first competition being the selection of a preferred bidder for Northern Ireland's first 50 Metre swimming pool. and the other is for Elite facilities for Olympic and Paralympic sports. The Minister announced in June 2007 that North Down Borough Council had been selected as the preferred developer to build Northern Ireland's first 50 metre swimming pool. North Down Borough Council in conjunction with Sport Northern Ireland are progressing the next stage of the project. The second competition is for other Elite Facilities for Olympic and Paralympic sports. There are currently 14 approved applications. Sport Northern Ireland will recommend which projects should proceed to the development stage. Sport Northern Ireland has contacted the applicants on 25 June 2008 inviting them to submit their Outline Business Cases, thus beginning the next stage of the competition.
