London 2012 Olympics
The Department of Culture Arts and Leisure (DCAL) leads and co-ordinates all aspects relating to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 for Northern Ireland. Although DCAL is in the lead on the Olympic Strategy for Northern Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland leads on the sport theme, the Arts Council for Northern Ireland (ACNI) leads on the cultural theme, the Northern Ireland Sports Forum (NISF) leads on the volunteering theme and Invest NI (INI) leads on the business theme. DCAL established a Northern Ireland Olympic Task Force - made up of representatives from Sport NI, ACNI, Tourism, INI, Local Government etc., - that is responsible for delivering the benefits for Northern Ireland, and works closely with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) and other lead organisations to maximise benefits. ![]() Northern Ireland has consistently supported London’s 2012 bid and is committed to working with DCMS, LOCOG and the British Olympic Association, to making the 2012 Games a huge success.
